Help us discover more about the Miller family and the lives
they led through an archaeological dig at their abandoned
nineteenth century farm site. Professional archaeologist Craig
Chartier will train and direct volunteers in the excavation,
identification, cleaning and cataloging of artifacts. Dig
deeper and catch a glimpse into the past with this unique
volunteer opportunity!

Fall Nature Walk at Stump Brook Sanctuary

Join Robert Buchsbaum of Mass Audubon on a walk to explore
the beauty of the Stump Brook Wildlife Sanctuary in Halifax.
We'll focus on the birds, dragonflies and other wildlife that
inhabits the globally rare white cedar swamp habitat. Bring
binoculars and wear comfortable walking shoes.

Wildlands Trust Hike at The Striar Conservancy

If you're looking for reasons to get out and enjoy the beautiful
fall weather, come join us on a two hour family hike at the
165-acre Striar Conservancy. This lovely wooded preserve along
the lower Winnetuxet River includes rich wildlife habitats,
meandering trails, footbridges crossing small springs, vernal
pools, a floodplain forest, bogs and a lovely pond. Bring
your camera to record the abundance of plants and wildlife
in the area. The diverse habitat supports more than 90 species
of birds as well as deer, fox and the locally uncommon river
otter.

Historic Barns in Southeastern Massachusetts

Location: Bristol County Agricultural High School Library,

Barns are a treasured part of the rural Massachusetts landscape
but are too quickly becoming an endangered species. Hear about
the styles of barns in Southeastern Massachusetts, tips on
stabilizing barns until full preservation can begin, and how
the Community Preservation Act supports historic preservation
in Massachusetts towns. Speakers include master timberframer
Ian Ellison and other Massachusetts historic preservation
specialists. Submit pictures of local barns with specific
questions to Kelley Whitmore, kwhitmore@ttor.org. Please know
we may not be able to cover all submissions.

Land Conservation Options: Information for
Landowners and Concerned Citizens

How landowners and communities can permanently conserve land
including the steps involved, public and private funding sources,
and potential tax benefits of conservation. Panel discussion
includes representatives of land conservation organizations,
town officials and a landowner who has experience with conserving
land.
